Ōku Whakaaroaro DFI Session 8: Computational Thinking
Scratch - I made a colorful Spiro flower in Scratch! So cool!
Once I actually get my head in the zone, I found it quite easy to identify the steps needed to make the pen move and make the flower. I did have to play around with starting points x - 0 y - 0 and how many degrees to turn, how many times I needed to repeat but once I got the maths sorted in my head and once I had a play around I was able to complete a simple flower. It makes me want to try more!

Ōku Whakaaroaro - DFI Session 6 Enabling Access
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Wow! I am blown away with how big ManaiaKalani has grown since I first visited in 2016/17! It is exciting to know we are all connect and that we share a shared language which is the pedagogy and kaupapa language exclusive to Manaiakalani.
Interesting to note the Implementation Programme:
Term 1 - Learn
Term 2 - Create - Am loving this term and being given the time to play and create!!!
Term 3 - Share
- Make sure site is user friendly for the junior school whom are all using iPads
- Try and make site so that there is no scrolling needed on iPads
- Create a folder for all items to be used on the site and make sure the folder is shared to public

DFI SESSION 3 - Just Playing With Create a Path & Animations
Have been trying to have a go at merging animations into a create a path in Google Slides. I found it relatively easy to put together but am unsure of how to make it move automatically through the slides until I get to the part where you have to chose the correct answer.
At present you have to click through the slides manually until you get to the questions.
Next steps is to add sound to the animations so that the cars 'toot' their horns or 'zoom' past.
Is a work in progress...

DFI SESSION 2 - Just Playing with Google Meet & Embedding Video into Blog!
My attempt to engage with others blogs, use Google Meet to share and then my attempt to embed a video into my rangitaki! Ka wani kē!
Ōku Whakaaroaro - DFI Session 2: Workflow
So many tips and tricks from todays session!! The focus was on the following...
- Google Meet: Was good to revisit good practices when using Google Meet such as making sure to 'mute' oneself when someone is presenting, asking for permission before recording the session and how to maintain a professional presence (i.e sometimes its not appropriate to change your background when on camera). I found it a challenge to record a meeting, to download it and then upload as an embedded video on my blog. One of the challenges was that I wanted to rerecord my video in Google meet so that there were no mistakes and the wait time between ending the Google Meet and for the video to appear in Google Drive. Once those two concerns were alleviated, I found the process of uloading to Blog a very straight forward and simple process. I did have to play around with the settings in order for the video to sit nicely within the given parameters but was able to figure it out with some playing around. (SEE VIDEO ATTACHED)
- Google Keep: Make sure you download app to iPhone and download extension to Chrome! A great tool to capture ideas be it with your voice or written notes. Add images to notes, check tasks off your to-do list, jot notes and reminders. Quickly write down numbers for contacts. Create - share - collaborate with other people on notes and lists.
- Gmail: Lots of tips and tricks. The biggest tip I walked away with was how to select and delete/unread MANY emails at once. I also learnt how to search using filters, schedule emails to be sent at a certain time and how to add signatures to my outgoing emails. All these tips are going to make my life easier! Will help me safe time and will attend to the need of my brain to have things organised and tidy.
